Night Herald

Director duo Julia Sausen & Julia Gorniewicz approach me to create a title sequence for their shortfilm "Night Herald". A starting point was inspired by a key scene within the story. Falling paper origamis, Orizuru, as a symbol for hope and luck. “Night Herald” opens with 10-year-old Leo and his mom digging two graves in a desert wasteland. One is meant for Leo, who is expected to pass an unusual rite of passage. The nocturnal journey is believed to mature him. Hesitant, Leo faces his solitary adventure, however, the rite is disrupted and leaves him to his own devices in the face of danger. The film shows a world shaped by a different set of rules. A slight shift of paradigm, that offers a new perspective. It’s a strange world, dark and gritty, but also full of wonder. A world, where roles we assume in life stretch out to unfamiliar borders, exploring the abnormal beyond ethical constraint.
